If your AC is leaking, a clogged or improperly pitched drain pan is one of the most common culprits - and one of the most overlooked. Water pooling where it shouldn't be isn't just a nuisance. Left alone, it leads to water damage, mold, and a repair bill that's a lot bigger than it needed to be.
Here's what we were working with on this one. The evaporator coil area was opened up so we could get a clear look at the drain pan sitting beneath the coil. There was visible buildup and debris that had been sitting there long enough to cause problems. The pan wasn't draining properly, and the pitch was off - meaning water had nowhere to go but out.
We cleaned out the pan, cleared the blockage, and adjusted the pitch so condensation could drain the way it's supposed to. It's the kind of repair that doesn't look dramatic from the outside, but it makes a real difference. The system can now shed water correctly instead of letting it sit and overflow.
A lot of homeowners don't think about the drain pan until there's already a puddle on the floor - or worse, damage to the ceiling below the air handler. Catching it early is always the better move. This is exactly the kind of AC repair call worth making before things escalate.
